While we could easily write on every aspect of
travel to and around Egypt we did trim the field down to a selection of
favorites…those experiences that really stand out in our mind…those
things that always make us smile and bring back our own memories. We’re
happy to share these with you.
Introduction to Antiquities
– A brief overview on what we can learn from the antiquities and
artifacts and what this tells us about the people who created them.
Baksheesh
– Egypt works on a culture of
tangible appreciation for services rendered…here’s a primer on the
topic.
Egyptian Food
– Egyptian food is fresh, varied
and delicious. And not spicy unless you want it to be.
Karkaday, Shai & Sheesha
– Drinking tea and smoking a water
pipe…wonderful and relaxing ways to spend time with friends and
time-honored traditions in Egypt.
Camel Trekking in the Sinai
–
So many adventurous guests want a camel riding experience beyond the
short ride at the Pyramids. Here’s Joyce’s tale from Sinai, as far
as she’s concerned, probably THE best place to do this. And the
route was along the famous “camel dive” trek that scuba divers enjoy
in Dahab.
Climbing Mt. Sinai
–
The tale of an overnight climb to see the sunrise from what feels
like the roof of the world. Strenuous, yes. Worth it?
Unquestionably.
Lake Nassar Cruise
– On board
the Eugenie for the Lake Nasser Cruise in January 2007
Brooke
Clinic, Aswan
–
One
of The Brooke Organization clinics is based in Aswan, providing vital healthcare
and health maintenance resources for Upper Egypt's hardworking equine
population. I had the good fortune to get a comprehensive guided tour.
Tell
el-Amarna & El Minya
–
My
journey to a seldom visited gem of a site where Upper and Lower Egypt meet.
One Week in Jordan
–
Joyce’s diary from her trip of some years ago. The sights and sites
of Jordan…so close to Egypt, but so very different.
The Petra Kitchen
–
Eat, drink and cook with one of Jordan's most talented (and most
patient!) chefs as you learn about delicious Jordanian cuisine.
On the Road to
Bahariya –
Bahariya Oasis is getting to be an
important destination in Egypt. The oasis has much to offer, and is
a vivid contrast to the Egypt you see along the Nile.
Islam, in a Nutshell
–
A basic understanding of Islam is
absolutely necessary to appreciate the culture and the people you’ll
meet.
A Trip Report
–
Joyce & Phil’s trip diary from 1993…where and when we learned
exactly how we wanted to design our tours (prime example…this
experience taught us that we would ONLY offer 5 star Nile cruisers
or better!!).
